What a doctor visit, scan or check-up costs at hospitals in China

What does it cost?Checked 4 Nov 2026

Few hospitals in China publish what they charge foreign patients. These are the published prices we found, each with its source and the month we checked it. They are list prices, not a quote for your case, and they change. Ward & Way is not affiliated with any hospital named here, and none of them pays us.

A doctor visit

  • Beijing United Family Hospital (private): a primary outpatient visit costs ¥500 to ¥1,800 and a specialist consultation ¥840 to ¥2,840 (United Family price list, Nov 2026).
  • Jiahui International Hospital, Shanghai (private): a general consultation costs ¥300 to ¥1,000 and a specialist visit ¥700 to ¥1,200 (Jiahui price list, Nov 2026).

An MRI or CT scan

  • Beijing United Family Hospital: a CT scan of one body part costs ¥1,760 to ¥7,960 and an MRI scan of one body part ¥5,000 to ¥6,000, including the report but not disposable supplies or medicines (United Family price list, Nov 2026).
  • Jiahui International Hospital: a CT scan of one body part costs ¥1,800, or ¥2,800 with contrast; an MRI scan of one body part costs ¥3,000, or ¥5,000 with contrast (Jiahui price list, Nov 2026).
  • A visitor told Yicai Global that her MRI at a hospital in Kunming cost ¥486 (Yicai Global, Jan 2026). That is one patient's report, not a published price list.

A health check-up

We have not found a published check-up price list from a hospital in Beijing or Shanghai yet. If you send us an inquiry, we tell you what a hospital's international office says it charges.

  • HKU-Shenzhen Hospital: check-up packages from ¥711 to ¥1,269, depending on age, sex and whether the package includes a low-dose lung CT (Bowtie list, Nov 2025). The hospital itself publishes no fee list; the hospital page shows each package.

Why the ranges are wide

United Family prices a visit by its code in the US CPT system, which grades the history, examination and medical decisions involved, so one kind of visit carries a range. As a for-profit hospital it files its prices with the health bureau, and its list does not apply at its Beijing hospital of integrative medicine (United Family price list, Nov 2026). Jiahui prices scans per body part, with a higher price when contrast is used.

Public hospitals' international departments seldom publish their prices online; Ruijin and PUMCH, for example, don't (see Ruijin and PUMCH). Ask them for a written quote.

Get the price for your case in writing

Ask the hospital's international office for a written quote that says what it includes: the doctor's fee, tests, contrast, the report, supplies and medicines. Ask whether a deposit is needed and how you can pay; the paying guide explains deposits and cards, and the cost and insurance guide covers what insurers pay.
